Oh how I missed my Nikki Giovanni, someone very special re-bought her anthology for me, and, ummm, yeah.

How Do You Write A Poem?

how do you write a poem
about someone so close
to you that when you say ahhhhh
they say chuuuu
what can they ask you to put
on paper that isn’t already written
on your face
and does the paper make it
any more real
that without them
life would be not
impossible but certainly
more difficult
and why would someone need
a poem to say when i come
home if you’re not there
i search the air
for your scent
would i search any less
if i told the world
i don’t care at all
and love is so complete
that touch or not we blend
to each other the things
that matter aren’t all about
baaaaaanging (i can be baaaanged all
day long) but finding a spot
where i can be free
of all the physical
and emotional bullshit
and simply sit with a cup
of coffee and say to you
"i’m tired" don’t you know
those are my love words
and say to you “how was your
day” doesn’t that show
i care or say to you “we lost
a friend” and not want to share
that loss with strangers
don’t you already know
what i feel and if
you don’t maybe
i should check my feelings

Nikki Giovanni

just free writing fragments of future things….

shame.

i am ashamed.

of this shame.

and feeling guilty

of being ashamed of having that shame.

that i almost forgot why.

i was ashamed

in the first

place.

just almost though.

wishful thinking.

jalylah:

…rosa

I need hard copy of this. I need to rifle through somebody’s grandparent’s attic.

I.

I should have loved him forever
or put a bullet in his muthafuckin’ head.

II.

The past has made me
A good lover and a whore,
placed me closer to my fantasies
of being a beautiful Japanese boy.
My worldly charms exclusively sought
by connoisseurs of freak,
who worldwide know
I keep a small…

*faints*

greydotmatters:

people keep tellin me to put my feet on the ground
i get mad & scream/ there is no ground
only shit pieces from dogs horses & men who dont live
anywhere/ they tell me think straight & make myself
somethin/ i shout & sigh/ i am a poet/ i write poems/
i make words/ cartwheel & somersault down pages
outta my mouth come visions distilled like bootleg

whisperedverse:

The best good morning
is heard as whispering sheets;
silent exchanges.

dope.

(via whisperedverse-deactivated20110)

i have been to this arena before

where hearts and logic fight to the death

and conundrums are taking bets

and love is the only referee

but is too scared to call off the fight

and for once…

let the heart win by decision.

April is National Poetry Month, I would love submissions of poetry or spoken word tracks to feature on my blog this month.   My blog is Naturally Alise: poetry, love, & laughs.   I actually accept submissions  all year round, but I want to emphasize it a little bit harder in April.  Send submissions and a short bio with links to your tumblr and/or website to info@naturallyalise.com.  Spread the word.
